Minister of State for the Office of Public Works, Mr. Patrick O’Donovan T.D., today announced the introduction of the new 30km/h speed limit in the Phoenix Park, which will commence on Monday, the 28th of February 2022 . This change is in line with the Phoenix Park Transport and Mobility Options Report, published in January 2021 and finalised following public consultation in July last year.

Two additional recommendations contained in the Phoenix Park Transport and Mobility Options Report will also be implemented starting on the 28th of February

Phoenix Park Transport & Mobility Options Report - Implementations

Minister of State for the Office of Public Works, Mr. Patrick O’Donovan T.D., today announced the introduction of the new 30km/h speed limit in the Phoenix Park, which will commence on Monday, the 28th of February 2022. This change is in line with the Phoenix Park Transport and Mobility Options Report, published in January 2021 and finalised following public consultation in July last year.

Two additional recommendations contained in the Phoenix Park Transport and Mobility Options Report will also be implemented starting on the 28th of February resulting in the following traffic changes for the duration of a 9-month pilot study:

• implementation of a cul-de-sac on the Upper Glen Road and

• implementation of a one-way system on the North Road.

These measures will not impact access to institutions in close proximity to the two routes.

Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue, T.D., and Ministers of State at the Department of Agriculture Senator Pippa Hackett and Martin Heydon T.D. today announced the launch of a new Agri-Environment Training Scheme (AETS) for farmers. The new National Retrofit Plan, which was published as part of Climate Action Plan 2021, sets out how the Government will deliver on our retrofit targets. Taoiseach Micheál Martin has welcomed the progress on a new Cork Events Centre, with funding arrangements now completed by Cork City Council and construction due to begin later this year.

The government was today updated on plans for the flagship project on the site of the former Beamish & Crawford brewery, as well as significant regeneration of the entire Grand Parade Quarter.

An additional €7m of government funding has been approved to meet the cost of construction delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre has today been notified of 3,780 PCR-confirmed cases of COVID-19.

In addition, on Monday 7 February, 5,585* people registered a positive antigen test through the HSE portal.

As of 8am today, 646 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised, of whom 72 are in ICU.


Given the current high incidence, the daily case number is based on positive SARS-CoV-2 results uploaded to the HSE COVID Care Tracker the preceding day. These data are provisional. The HPSC and surveillance partners will continue to notify and process cases and outbreaks of COVID-19 on CIDR over this period.

Almost €236 million paid out to date on Enhanced Illness Benefit

This week, the Department of Social Protection issued weekly payments valued at €16.96 million to 67,434 people in receipt of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment.

This represents a decrease of 7,979 on the number of people in receipt of the payment last week. In addition, a further 4,881 people, who are receiving payment today, closed their PUP claim between 31st January and 6th February, 2022.

These figures are in addition to the 162,578 people who were on the Live Register at
