Minister of State for Migration Colm Brophy announces funding to support the English language needs of Third Country Nationals

Co funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union

  • A total of €2million available under the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) from Ireland’s AMIF 2021-2027 National Programme.
  • Funding to help Third Country Nationals improve their English language skills, and support wider integration into Irish society.

The Minister of State for Migration Colm Brophy today announced funding of up to €2 million for projects that aim to enhance the English language skills of people who have moved here as migrants. Funding is being made available under the Asylum, Migration and

Integration Fund (AMIF) 2021-2027 from Ireland’s AMIF 2021-2027 National Programme. The Programme is jointly funded by the European Union and the Government of Ireland.

Announcing the fund, Minister Brophy said:

“I am very pleased to announce funding through the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2026 Call for Proposals. The funding will support projects that address the English language needs of Third Country Nationals in Ireland.

“The ability to communicate in the language of the host society is a key factor in successful integration. Strong English language skills help people access public services, education and employment opportunities, while also supporting participation in community life.

“The projects funded through this initiative will play a vital role in providing accessible and high-quality English language supports, helping Third Country Nationals build the skills and confidence needed to participate fully in Irish society.”

Organisations can apply for funding for projects specifically targeted at increasing English language skills, such as, but not limited to:

  • language training for diverse proficiency levels;
  • workplace language training;
  • bridging courses to address gaps between international qualifications and local standards;
  • provision of English language acquisition programmes for parents of children attending primary and post-primary schools;
  • provision of certified ESOL accreditation aligned to the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The funding will support a small number of projects, with grants of at least €300,000 available for approved projects. The minimum project budget is €400,000, of which 75% will be funded through AMIF.
