Minister of State Colm Brophy addresses anti-racism event

The Minister of State for Migration Colm Brophy today addressed the High-Level Event on Anti-Racism in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham. The event has been organised as part of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The High-Level Event on Anti-Racism brings together policymakers, public officials,

academics, international organisations and civil society representatives from across Ireland and the European Union to exchange experiences, share good practice and strengthen collective efforts to combat racism in all its forms.

The event provides an opportunity to showcase Ireland's ongoing implementation of the National Action Plan Against Racism (NAPAR), while fostering dialogue on policy development, data collection, reporting mechanisms, education, community engagement and the role of public institutions in promoting racial equality.

Speaking at the event, Minister Brophy said:

“The challenges we face in tackling racism, including the rise of AI-driven digital hate, are not unique to any one country. They are shared European challenges, and they require a shared European response.

“In Ireland, the Government has made dedicated funding available to support the National Action Plan Against Racism’s goals. The Ireland Against Racism Fund enables non-government and community organisations to run national projects and smaller local initiatives to combat racism. Since its inception in 2023, a total of 94 projects have received funding amounting to €3.9 million under the fund.”
