The Minister of State for International Development and Diaspora, Neale Richmond TD, has today announced funding of €40 million to the Global Partnership for Education. The funding will be provided over the period 2026 to 2030.
Today, more than 270 million children around the world are out of school. Ireland's
contribution to the Global Partnership for Education will help partner countries to improve learning outcomes, strengthen accountability and ensure that education systems are more inclusive and resilient.Minister Richmond said:
At a time when progress towards universal education remains under pressure, Ireland is pleased to continue its partnership with the Global Partnership for Education. Our pledge reflects Ireland's enduring commitment to global education and our determination to ensure that every child, regardless of circumstance, has the opportunity to learn, thrive, and realise their potential.
As current Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Ireland is pleased to make this pledge as part of the wider Team Europe commitment to global education. Investing in education is one of the most effective ways to reduce poverty, promote equality and support sustainable development.
The announcement forms part of Minister Richmond's wider programme at UN High-Level Week, where Ireland is advancing priorities on education, food security, humanitarian protection and sustainable development, while engaging with international partners on strengthening multilateral cooperation and the effectiveness of the UN system.
