Record home completions in first half of year marked by Minister Browne

10.8% more homes completed in H1 compared with same period in 2025

New figures published today by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) indicate that more homes have been completed in the first six months of the year than in any previous January-June period since the CSO series began in 2011.

Between January and June 2026, 16,679 new dwellings were completed, an increase of

10.8% compared with the same period in 2025, when 15,059 homes were completed. This marks the highest level of first-half-year completions on record and builds on the record annual output achieved last year.

As housing completions typically accelerate during the second half of the year, this performance in the opening six months provides a positive basis for overall housing delivery in 2026.

Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD emphasised:

“The record number of completions achieved between January and June provides an encouraging indication of activity within the housing sector on the whole, but there’s room for improvement. I want to see that happening over the next half of the year.

“With almost 16,000 ‘new home’ commencements in the first half of the year, these figures overall are underlining that the measures and policy interventions we are putting in place are translating into real homes on the ground.

“I take every data set we have in its context. I reflect on what it tells us and how the bigger picture for delivery is shaping up and how we are fixed for the next 6 months.

“My focus remains on maintaining and building on momentum, using every tool available to increase housing supply and ensure that more people can access a secure, affordable home. We are driving on because people need these homes delivered.”

The 16,679 new dwelling completions in between January and June (H1) 2026 include:

• Apartment completions at 5,011 up 4.5% from H1.
• 8,830 scheme dwelling completions (houses that form part of a multi-unit development of two or more houses connected to the ESB network) in H1 2026, up 15% from H1 2025.
• Single dwellings at 2,838 up 9.7% from H1 2025.
