Discover the Vibrant Creations of Emerging Artists at ‘Breaking the Patterns Exhibition’ at Farmleigh, Dublin

The Office of Public Works (OPW) is delighted to announce the launch of ‘Breaking the Patterns’ exhibition at Farmleigh, Dublin. This exciting exhibition features a group of emerging Irish Visual Artists who have participated in a two-year programme designed to foster and cultivate their creativity through European partnerships.

The Breaking the Patterns programme, led by Capacity Ireland and Carlow County

Council Arts Service, has provided participating artists with weekly mentoring, bursaries, art residencies in Seville or Lisbon, and access to dedicated studio space. The artists have been able to develop their artistic practice and expand their horizons through immersion in new cultures, places, and experiences. In association with The Arts Council of Ireland and Local Authority Arts Services of Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford, and Wexford, the exhibition showcases the artwork of artists who have benefitted from residencies, mentoring, and professional development opportunities.

Róisín Foley, Curator for Breaking the Patterns exhibition said:

“This exhibition is a pivot point for this group of emerging artists, who have developed their recently established artistic methodologies within the context of new cultures, places, people and climates. Within the Breaking the Patterns programme and theme there was an emphasis on cross cultural dialogue which has led the participating artists to create new work which reflects on notions of identity, place as well as both the built and natural environments where they were on residency – in Seville and Lisbon. Being immersed in a new place or programme has the ability to both overcome you with curiosity and instigate a process of deep reflection as you bring your own experiences with you.”

Breaking the Patterns exhibition at Farmleigh is a testament to the success of the programme and the dedication of the artists to their craft. The exhibition at Farmleigh runs from Tuesday to Sunday, 10.00 – 16.00 from 22 February until 2 March.
