Minister Richmond to meet Irish community organisations in London and the West Midlands

Minister of State for International Development and Diaspora, Neale Richmond TD, will travel to Britain to undertake a series of Irish community engagements in London, Birmingham and Coventry on 17-18 February.

Ahead of the visit, Minister Richmond said: “This is my first visit to

Britain since being appointed Minister of State for International Development and Diaspora last month.

“A key pillar of the British-Irish relationship is the depth of our community and people-to-people connections. Like so many, I have dozens of close friends and family members who have chosen to make Britain their home. I look forward to working with the Irish community across Britain to further strengthen these vital political, trade, business, education and cultural links.

“The new Programme for Government includes a number of commitments to deepen our engagement with the diaspora. We will develop a new Diaspora strategy; one that ensures our future relationship with the global Irish is a dynamic one, which meets their needs and is adaptable to evolving circumstances.

“My visit is the first step in delivering this new strategy. I look forward to hearing how we can best support the evolving needs of the community in Britain – from those who have recently arrived, to longer term residents and to second, third and later generations.”

During a two day visit to London, Coventry and Birmingham, Minister Richmond will have a series of engagements with representatives from organisations supported by the Government’s Emigrant Support Programme, many of whom provide support to our most vulnerable and under-represented communities.

In London, he will also meet with young leaders and members of Irish networks in the business community.

As part of his programme in Birmingham, Minister Richmond will visit Pairc na hÉirean, the largest GAA facility in the West Midlands.
